EDRG 3344 Persusive Piece

For my persuasive piece I am writing a letter to my little friends. Dear Little Yummy friends, I am a frog who loves to eat. I eat all kinds of bugs and worms. I know that you are out there and I will wait patiently for you. Except for an occasional blink for me, I will sit motionless and wait for you to fly by and then with my long sticky tongue get you. My tongue will hurl out with is stickiness and then when I catch you I will curl my tongue back in and swallow you. It is almost like casting out a fish line and then reeling in back in. My tongue is attached to the front instead on the back. So, I know that you will be by so don’t be upset when I catch you in the blink of an eye.

EDRG narrative for MGP

This is only my first attempt on the narrative and was working on a book. So it is in processs. Like writing is a process.

Frankie the Frog

One day Frankie the Frog was jumping from one lily pad to the next, wondering where all the other frogs like Frankie lived.

Frankie was always the only frog in this pond and often is there was anyone else like him out there.

So one day Frankie decided to go on a hopping scavendar hunt for other frogs like him. So as Frankie leaves he begins to hop and hop and Croak and croak.

As Frankie starts his journey he runs into a tree frog, which is named Bertha. Bertha was so unhappy to see another frog on her turf. She said move on threw, move on threw no room for you here. You don’t belong here. All Frankie wanted from Bertha was to ask her a question or two and she would not allow it. So Frankie went on to hopping and croaking. Croak, Croak

Frankie the frog now comes to a big carpenter frog named Bobby. Bobby was on a gigantic lily pad all by himself. Frankie thought for sure that Bobby would help him find more frogs like Frankie. Bobby says you do not belong here with all of us bull frogs get out of here. Frankie was sad and move on. He started to hop, hop, and hop so more to find some frogs just like him. Croak Croak.

So, Frankie is hopping for a long time now and comes up to this beautiful pond and he noticed something right off. There were not just one frog at this pond but they were many frogs and frogs that look just like him. Frankie was so excited he did not know who to ask or what to do. Frankie finally saw a frog that look just like him just a tad bit larger. It was a big bull frog and his name was Billy. Frankie started to ask Billy why he was the only frog at the other pond and Billy said Hey Frankie it’s me your cousin you got lost from us. That was no pond that was a puddle. We live hear and were wondering when you would make your way back. Frankie the frog was so excited to be home with all his family and friends that he kept on saying Croak, croak, Croak.

I am very fortunate that my daughter loves to read. We buy her books every two weeks and she reads them faster than I can buy them. We tried the library but once she reads them she like to keep them. One of the recent books we got for her was Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. It was a New York Times Bestseller, a Parent’s Choice Gold Award Winner to name just a few awards for it. She said she loved this book. There is also a website all about Kate DiCamillo any questions about her and her upcoming book as well. The website is as follows: http://www.katedicamillo.com/journal.html.

Great writer with a child like imagination.

EDRG 3321 Little Red Riding Hood Ch 5

EDRG 3321 Little Red Riding Hood

Wow! I had not heard of the original story of the Little Red Riding Hood. I would have never thought of reading this version to my daughter. As a child, I remember my mother and father reading me fairy tale stories but nothing like this one ever. However, the different symbolizes throughout the story would be a good thing for the high school level. It would allow them to look deep into the writing and pick out the different symbolism throughout the whole story. In the story it talks about the bzou who asks the girl when she comes in is she is hungry to cook up the meat which was her grandmother and is she was thirsty to drink the wine which was her grandmother’s blood. When it talks about the girl taking different pieces of clothing off and throwing it into the fire it resembles her moving on to an adult woman. It is all symbolic and relates to something in life and moving on. Quite interesting never had heard a different version before class.

EDRG 3344 Talking benefits the student.

EDRG 3344 Why talking benefits students in the classroom?

First, it allows for the students who are shy to be able to talk to their peers in small groups. The shy students are then able to voice their opinions because maybe they are scared by the whole class at one time verses small groups. Students talking in the classroom also allows for different ideas from other students to bounce off of each other. Maybe if a student is talking it allows for another student to literate off that idea and then that student is able to complete the assignment or gets a more understanding of the assignment for that session. For example, like the example we did in the class on Tuesday about the snickers being better than the Twix. Of course, I was on the snickers side. Anyway, it allowed for some students who have never talk up in class the opportunity to do so in this setting of a debate. You can have a debate in your classroom with your students with all kinds of subjects just need to set some guidelines for them. So things don’t get out of hand. Having the students talk in class is also a way for you as the teacher to maybe get to know a little more about the student learning styles by watching the students while they are in a debate or small groups. Students need that chance to talk and not just have robot for a teacher who always talks and never lets the student participate in class. Then the student becomes not interested in class and the teacher looses the student.

Here is a website that picks out the best of the best in books from all authors. It will tell you about the book, rating, and curriculum to do with the book. Fun and exciting website
http://www.carolhurst.com/. Hope you enjoy.

Also, I was given the book Missing May by Cynthia Rylant for my daughter to read. She is in third grade and couldn’t put in down. She enjoyed the characters and wanted to know what would happen next. This book was the winner of the Boston Globe and Booklist Top of the List.

EDRG 3321 Maya Angelou

EDRG 3321 Maya Angelou

Today in class was a WOW factor for me. I personally had not heard from Maya Angelou before and she is an amazing woman. Maya is a poet, writer, performer, teacher, and director. To live a life as she has, Maya has so much knowledge and wisdom and was very visible in her interview. There were certain moments where I went said in my mind “that makes sense now”. My eyes were glued to the screen just wanting her to talk more. I found her so interesting to listen to her. When she was talking about Shakespeare and how she related the author to being a bare foot woman just like her. It makes you realize that children as relate things to their own personal experiences and teachers tend to forget it. We as soon to be teachers need to make sure we give our students all the opportunities to our students and let them know we are there for them and what they need; we will do our best to provide it for them. The students are the future and we need not to put limitations on them and let them explore to their heart desire. Poetry can be interpreted in many ways to people who read it. I wanted to listen to Maya Angelou keep on reciting the poems that have touch her over the years and that she has keep dear to her heart. This was an awesome video in class. Thanks for sharing it.
